Rescue Dried Up Eye Liners and Lip Liners

Don't you hate it when an eyeliner or even a lip liner dries up and it is very difficult to use, and we simply just don't use it anymore, or worst we throw it away? (I know I've been guilty of doing this)

We tend to waste money because we can't rescue a beauty product, with a few simple steps we can save money by not throwing away products that can be revived! Below are some tips that can help you save some of your dried up eye liner as well as lip liners:

1. Run a blow-dryer on low heat facing the liner for 5 seconds.(If you don't have a blow-dryer you can use a lighter/match but you must be careful not to burn yourself -- with this method hold the liner directly above the lighter/match while rotating the liner again for 5 seconds). 

2. Lightly test out the product on the back of your hands (if its a consistency that is useable then apply the liner.  (The liner should not be hot at all, of course if it is please give it a few seconds to cool down.)

3. If needed, repeat step 1 for additional softness.

4. If the liner becomes way too creamy, it can be placed into the refrigerator for a few minutes to harden up.

Tips to Having Healthy Glowing Hair on a Budget

As a woman I know that there are certain steps that I need to follow in order to have a clean & healthy body, however I realize that I spend more time focusing on getting my face, legs and hands smooth and moisturized, but don’t focus enough on doing the same for my hair.  

Sure I shampoo and condition my hair, but most of us women can agree that those two steps simply aren’t enough! We all can’t afford going to the salon every so often, and we feel guilty forking over hundreds of dollars on hair treatments every month, so what’s a girl to do?

Plus Size Model on Cover of French Elle

The lovely model Tara Lynn has landed the front cover of French Elle Magazine recently, 
this is actually her second cover on Elle, in addition, this lovely plus size model also has done some shots for H&M (Big is Beautiful Swimwear Line) as well as Italian Vogue. 

I wanted to do a short and simple post on this because quite honestly we are not a society of "perfect" bodies, not one person is like the other, we all have imperfections...having said that I think it's beautiful when a major magazine showcases a model that quite honestly represents a lot of girls out there today!

That is why I believe Elle Magazine calls her "The Body" on the front cover, because she represent what regular women look like, which is not the typical thin and photo-shopped woman that we usually see in magazines or runway shows!  

Could this be a start of a new trend -- Moving away from models that are paper thin and moving towards embracing and recognizing models that the average woman all over the world can relate to?

I truly believe that having plus size models featured in magazines gives young girls and women the courage to just embrace their curves and it gives them the inspiration that they can be whatever they wish regardless of their size.

NYC Showtime Glitter Eyeliner

NYC Showtime Glitter Eyeliner is not only super affordable, but the smooth consistency really makes this a luxury product on a drugstore budget. I am in love with how the liner applies very smoothly without any tugging, and how the minimal glitter specs turn this standard basic black eyeliner into something very glamorous!

 

This liner is a bit different than some other drugstore liners because of its smooth consistency, and its ability to gently glide on without any discomfort.  Although the liner does take a long time to dry, it does maintain its strong pigmentation throughout the day, and I love the soft texture which basically makes the whole lining your eye process a quick snap. It is definitely easy to use, a perfect product when on the go, or running late, simply glide on and walk out the door.  In addition, the sparkles are very minimal and not rough at all.

 

The packaging is very standard for pencil liners, it is not mechanical which is actually something I prefer simply because you can sharper the pencil to your liking as dull or as sharp as you wish. The pencil itself comes with a clear plastic cap which fits perfectly and snug.  Also, the pencil’s actual “body” has small glitter spots all over it which makes it very girly and very glam.

Overall I am very impressed with this liner, NYC really has some great products and I already love a lot of their liners, but by adding the small glitters it really glamorizes the typical black liner.  I would recommend this product to anyone who is on a budget yet is looking for a liner that will last pretty much all day! This product can be purchased at any drugstore near you for $2.99.

Motel Rocks Fashion for Less

If you are an avid reader of my blog, then you know I am a bargain hunter, I typically never purchase beauty or fashion items for full price.  When it comes to clothes, I always look for good quality items, yet with an affordable price tag.  Every so often, an affordable store will partner up with a designer (like Target and Jason Wu here) which allows us bargain shoppers to purchase designer names for less.

Recently a clothing line was brought to my attention, and what intrigued me enough to post about it, is that you get designer high end clothing material, for an affordable price. Motel Rocks is the name of the clothing brand, it is an international line, and the great news for me and other US residents, is that Motel Rocks has launched the US website this month (February 14th).

Some of the pieces that I am loving right now are all below $40, although most of their product are below $150.

As you can see their designs really fit into a lot of today's hottest fashion trends, such as Color Blocking and Metallics and quite honestly they are very affordable!


Two dresses that caught my eye are part of the Motel Rocks Spring Collection, both outfits retail for $86.40 definitely a little bit pricier than the outfits shown above, however these dresses are very fashionable, I can definitely see myself wearing them during the warm Spring/Summer months. Hard Candy Stay in Line Mechanical Eyeliner

If I could only use 1 word to describe this product it would be “crayon” the reason is because the Hard Candy Stay in Line Mechanical Pencil feels more like using a soft crayon vs. an actual eyeliner.  It does start off as a bit dry sort of tugging on the lids; so it does take a bit of warming up before the liner becomes soft.

 

The liner does take 3-4 minutes to dry once it is applied, however it is not very smudge-proof because a bit of rubbing will smear the liner. One suggestion is to use an eyeshadow to set the liner, in order to avoid any smudging. The color does become dull fairly quickly throughout the day, and although the pigmentation is fairly high in this product, it doesn’t have much of a lasting power.

  

Although this liner came with a sponge tip, it is not very easily blend-able with it, in fact it definitely takes several attempts to succeed in flawless smudging. It is a mechanical pencil, which is great since it means no sharpening, however because you can’t sharpen the liner it is hard to achieve a small thin line due to the round tip.

 As far as Hard Candy claiming this product contains Lash Grow Serum, I didn't notice any difference in the length of my lashes but it could be because I only occasionally use this liner.

Overall I do love how this liner is very pigmented and can easily be seen over any eyeshadow color, however I am not impressed with its minimal staying power, and its inability to be smudge-proof. 

If you are a person that rubs your eye a lot then this product is not for you, however if you want a very pigmented eyeliner and don't mind having to touch up throughout the day then I would definitely recommend this product! (This product can be purchased at Walmart for $5.00.)

Lead Found in Lipsticks? Well Here Are The Safe Alternatives!

The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) tested hundreds of tubes of lipsticks and the results were unbelievable; 400 of them had traces of Lead, and several brands including L'oreal, Maybeline, and Covergirl contained the highest levels!

Lead is a known chemical said to be so toxic that according to the Daily Green (an online Green Consumer Guide) "it isn't {even}allowed in paint or gasoline." Although the doses found in these lipsticks is fairly low since lipstick is not something we consume (it's just applied), it is still a little bit nerve-racking and definitely something to think about next time you pick one up.

Below are the top 10 lipsticks with the highest lead amounts (very scary considering majority of them are affordable drugstore lipsticks):

I do firmly believe that the cosmetic industry needs to set limits and possibly find some alternative methods to creating and developing lipsticks without the use of Lead.  The good news is that according to the Daily Green there are lipticks out there that are completely lead free, I picked out a few from the list, which are affordable drugstore lipsticks (listed below) that were tested for lead and no traces were found:

Mattese Elite Carnaval Nail Polish

Could it be quite possibly one of the best nail polishes out there? 

Well, I recently had the opportunity to try out the Mattese Elite Nail Enamel in Rainha, and I absolutely love it!  The application process was simply amazing, the polish just glides right on, with out any effort at all! One coat is pigmented enough, and as you apply more coats the color intensifies! 

As you can see from the pictures, the polish does intensify with flash lighting, however with natural night time lighting the color is a lot more mellow and not as bright! 

The staying power of the polish is surprisingly long lasting, 1 coat will last about 4 days, 2 coats will last about 6 days. The polish itself is reasonably priced at $5.99 for a .52 oz bottle!
