e.l.f. Studio Mineral Infused Face Primer VS Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer

I've been testing out the e.l.f. Studio Mineral Infused Face Primer and the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer (alternating between the two for the past few months). I am amazed at the quality of these primers and the similarities, so I thought I would do a comparison post!

The e.l.f. Studio Mineral Infused Face Primer retails for $6.00 for a .49oz pump container.  The Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer retails for $36.00 for a 1oz squeeze tube (at Sephora).   Both of these primers come in hygienic-type of pumps/tubes, which is awesome because you don't have to dip your fingers anywhere, causing bacteria to get in!  With both of these primers a small amount of product does go a long way, which is great because the small containers will last you a long time for both of these primers.
Now onto the comparison/similarities....both of these primers have a gel-like consistency, which makes it very easy to apply all over the face to ensure you don't miss a spot.  The interesting part about both of these primers is that once you apply them, they have a very silky and almost silicone-like feeling, which I actually like because it makes your skin feel very smooth.  Both of these primers allowed my foundation to glide right onto my face, resulting in smooth flawless applications every time with each of these primers.  Upon using these primers on different occasions with the same foundation, I found no difference in how my foundation looked in the morning vs by the end of the day.  Both of these primers allowed my foundation to stay put and remain flawless as it did in the morning when I first applied it.

I have oily spots on my face, and I did have to blot my face a few times throughout the day, with both of these primers.  Daytime vs nighttime  flash vs natural lighting, my foundation/blush looked and felt exactly the same no matter which primer I used.
In conclusion, I found no difference between the e.l.f. Studio Mineral Infused Face Primer VS Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer, they both feel the same, they both allowed my foundation to be applied perfectly and both made my foundation/blush look the same as it did in the morning vs the evening.  Seeing the price difference in both of these products I say go for the e.l.f. Studio Mineral Infused Face Primer, for only $6.00 you get the same results as you would if you used the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer!

  1. Great post, Silvana! I bought the ELF primer months ago, but I haven't used it yet. Will use it when I'm done with my Avon Magix primer.

  2. I've been wondering about elf's primer for awhile now. But from tons of wasted dollars spent on their hit or miss products if it's over $3. I won't buy it without reading reviews first. I think after reading this I think I'm going to try the elf primer because I've had a sample of the Smashbox primer and loved it. So hopefully I feel the same way you do.

  5. I haven't tried the Smashbox primer yet, but I do love the elf one. I've been using it for a while, among other ones like Avon, MUFE, and mark, but I always come back to the elf one. I love how I'm able to get that smooth, silicone like consistency that you speak of for a fraction of the price! Thanks for sharing this comparison with us, Silvana!
