My LOVE HATE Relationship With Drugstore Foundation

So if you haven't already figured it out, I LOVE drugstore makeup simply because majority of drugstore products (in my opinion) are of great quality, and very affordable!

However, the one makeup product that I hate to purchase at a drugstore is foundation! I honestly never find the right color for my skin tone so I usually have to purchase two different colors to see which one fits me the best OR mix the two different colors together.
I normally read foundation reviews on blogs before I make a purchase, but even if the blogger puts swatches on their hand/face it always looks different onto someone else's face because not 1 skin color and texture is like the other.

In addition, makeup companies usually offer computer generated swatches on their sites, which doesn't help at all because the colors in the bottles look completely different on the skin, most of the time! Or even worse, when the packaging is not in a clear container it is hard to see what the true color of the product really is.

I really wish that cosmetic companies and drugstores would offer testers with foundations, so at the very least we can swatch some on our hands to see if it is the right color.....Have you seen any foundation testers at your local drugstore? Sorry this is a rant but I am certain many of you feel this way! I love how drugstore foundations look and feel but I hate not being able to find the right shade!

  1. I always find their descriptions are totally off too. Since I hate returning stuff, I just skip those types of products at the drugstore. It's so frustrating that they can't find another solution. I could understand WHY they don't want testers at drugstores, but it just sucks when there's really not much else they can do.

    1. Hi Kristina, I hate returning stuff as well, that is why I normally will buy 2 different shades, but that will basically equal to the price of 1 expensive foundation....kind of thinking whether I should get buy a foundation at stores like sephora where even though it might be more expensive at least they can help me find a shade for me....

  2. That is so funny because in the Netherlands, there is always a tester bottle opened of the foundation so you kinda get to match your skintone in stores. But the lighting is always horrible or there is no mirror... Sometimes it just doesn't work out....

    1. That's awesome you have testers but too bad the lighting is horrible....i guess its good because you can also test out the texture and see if you would like it on your face.

    1. Hello Janine, that is awesome they have testers, and I really wish drugstores would offer that here in the US. I love the tone rehab foundation as well, its just that the color doesn't match me very well.

  5. I prefer walking into a drugstore and trying the testers so you know which colour you're buying then b it online if I want to buy a lot of things from the company. I know what you mean when some people take advantage of free testers, someone at my school didn't buy the actual product, she used to take the tester product but she got bad acne because people used the product before her who obviously wasnt very (clean)

    1. HI Lauren, thats horrible that a girl from your school used to take the testers, and maybe if testers were glued to the display then people wouldn't be able to steal them?

  6. I've just given up on drugstore foundation for the reasons you cite. I've found some lovely formulas but they're usually too pink and they never really match my skin tone. Oh well.
